Tests

The theory test, and the one with the examiner in it

Everything below links straight to the official GOV.UK pages. Book direct. Third party booking agents often add a premium for doing exactly what you can do yourself in five minutes.

Theory test

Preparation can be done in your own time, and it's monitored and encouraged as part of your lessons. Use whichever method suits you: book, app or the official online practice test. You'll want the theory out of the way before the practical.

It is the only part of learning to drive you can revise for in your pyjamas.

Practical test (no smiling in the waiting room)

The test gets discussed at every opportunity, so nobody arrives unsure what's about to happen. You'll be trained on using a sat nav, though you won't have to operate it, only follow it. You can even go the wrong way, as long as it's safe and legal. Try not to get properly lost.

It is the policy of this driving school to only put pupils in for a test when the instructor reckons they've a good chance of passing, and of getting the car, and themselves, back in one piece.

The practical is most often taken in the driving school car. A first-time pass is very achievable with proper management and a structured approach.

Not test-ready yet?

That's most people. Automatic driving lessons in Halifax start from wherever you actually are, whether that's never having sat in a driver's seat or having a test booked and the fear setting in.

Right then. Shall we get you driving?

Ring, send a text, or message on WhatsApp, whichever you’d actually use. Nigel will tell you what lessons cost and when he can fit you in.
